What does challenging yourself mean to you?
In the context of toastmasters, it could mean to have more impact, to tell better stories or even to finish your speeches with better conclusions.
There are many ways to challenge yourself. The thing is we all know what our biggest challenge is, however statistics estimate that only 2 out of 10 people follow through and overcome it. Sounds amazing right.
My belief is that most people don’t to take up their challenge because of lack of purpose. That’s right. People have a goal to be a better public speaker or improve communication skills, however they don’t have a deep down clear purpose that forces them to do it. Remember this:
1. A clear purpose has the power to excite you. It has the ability to ignite you.
2. A clear purpose gives you a energy of fear and excitement at the same time.
So the question is, when you think about your public speaking goal does it excite you and scare you at the same time? If it doesn’t maybe you are being too easy on yourself. If it does, then you are on the right track.
You maybe wondering what is my scaring and exciting goal? Well, I have a vision that we will have 10 more confident speakers by 30th June this year. From where we are right now this is a scary tall order. With our super committee and members on board, anything is possible.
So, over to you. What is your big audacious goal? Do you want to improve your communication skills? Name your goal and then get to work. Be like the 2 out of 10 that follow through on their public speaking goal.
Do you want to challenge yourself? If so, see on at our next super Toastmasters meeting.
Let’s make it happen!
Peace and love.
