“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness”. Desmond Tutu’s words seem very apt for the season we are in now.
Just take a moment and ponder on it…
Even though at a time like we are living now we may feel lost, there is always a ray of hope to hold onto.
Even though we are being wise and locking down in our homes, it’s also a time to use the opportunity to grow.
Even though we may lose momentum or even motivation for what we enjoy, it’s a time for us to find out who we really are.
Let’s make it plain Covid-19 is a killer and we cannot belittle the impact it can have.
What we also know is that challenging times calls for us to be challenging people.
In fact, my mentor Brian Johnson always says, “the obstacle you face will make you stronger.” Instead of meaning to run headfirst into trouble, he’s more focused on you. What can you do despite the obstacle? Who can you become? What can you learn?
As Toastmasters, we are crazy people who pay money to face obstacles to. Every time we raise our hand to deliver a speech, evaluate a fellow Toastmaster or help to facilitate a meeting we face an obstacle. We must be crazy, right? We must prepare; we must show up and we have to deliver!
What makes us do this?
I believe that deep down, we have a hope to be more confident, be more engaging and share messages of hope with others. I believe your story and your message has the power to change lives. Yes you can.
Pause for a moment and answer this question in your mind…
What was my deep-seated reason for joining Toastmasters in the first place?
I hope you can remember, because when things get challenging, you lose momentum and motivation dwindles, it’s your deep-seated reason that will keep you going.
Lewisham Speakers have made a big leap and we are an online speakers club for the foreseeable future. The good thing is you get the same quality speaking, same valuable feedback and the same diverse community of people to support you on your journey.
In what way do you need to grow as a speaker?
What role will you step up for at our next meeting?
It’s time for you to step up and help make Lewisham Speakers meetings as successful online as they are offline. Don’t let the current darkness of the Covid-19 season hold you back.
To paraphrase Desmond Tutu, it’s time to step into the Lewisham Speakers light, there are people out there who are waiting to hear your message.
See you on 1st April.
Peace and Love.
